Hello World! (Programming 101)
Welcome to my corner of the web! Not sure if you came here out of curiosity or necessity but either way I hope you enjoy the work.
I was born and raised in Memphis, Tn (A city built on creativity & individuality) under the guidance of my parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, siblings and neighbors. Having so many people involved in my life exposed me to a variety of food, music, art and culture.
At a young age I wanted to know how everything worked and how was it created. That drive led me to do two things… Break toys and make a few in the process. I was dangerous with a butter knife as I used it to remove motors, speakers, and batteries from everything I could get my hands on! What I couldn’t make I drew and imagined.
As a teen my family bought our first computer and color printer. Armed with nothing but a print shop program I started making cards, invitations, collages, editing photos, mouse pads, and CD’s that I used as gifts or to support my current church. My comfort with computers and using it as a tool supported my need to learn and create.
In college I majored in Management Information Systems so I could learn how to write my own programs and make my own software one day. While in college I continued to used my creativity to make music, graphics and websites for friends on campus. I soon became the Vice President of Technology for a business fraternity and created a website for the chapter. During my summers I would use my programming skills to write code for a local corporation as an intern.
After graduation I tried to find a programming job but the “IT Bubble” popped making job placement difficult. In the meantime I continued my web and graphic design. With every employer I was closer to working in IT and finally became a Quality Analyst testing software. As a Quality Analyst I was a part of the software life cycle which exposed me to project management, business analysis, testing and development. Today I use that knowledge on every project I approach.
Due to the recession I found myself going through layoff/outsource process which forced me to no longer rely on IT but to use all my passions and skills (graphic design, web design, programming and audio/video production).
In 2011 I started working on an associates in Graphic Art Technology concentrating on Interactive Media. I finally feel that my passions and education are soon to be one and the same.
